Stealing Parker

Stealing Parker - Miranda Kenneally 4 stars.

This review is posted on the Fictionators.

I practically counted down the days until I could get my hands on this book. I absolutely loved the companion, Miranda Kenneally’s Catching Jordan, so this has been one of my omg I can’t wait to read it! books.

Parker is dealing with the fact that her mom left their family for her girlfriend. Gossip is brutal, especially in this small town, and in an effort to prove that she’s not gay, like her mom, she becomes promiscuous–with lots of boys. She instantly becomes smitten when Brian, the new assistant baseball coach, comes to town. He’s six years older than her and can’t seem to stay away from the temptation.

All throughout the book, Parker tries to come to terms with her mom leaving them and tries to fit in with her dad’s religious ideals. She has friends who support her, namely Drew and Will, aka Corndog, both of whom I loved so much (swoon!).

I won’t tell you what happens in this story, because honestly anything I say will give away too much. I will tell you that I think I might have loved this even more than Catching Jordan and that we did get a few glimpses of Jordan and Henry (still love him) and even a little bit of Ty.

Miranda Kenneally is some kind of genius. She perfectly captures the way a teenage girl would feel and accurately depicts the adults around them. I loved the way that Parker thought, even when I wanted to scream at her to think about what she was doing. I also really loved how naive she was to what Brian’s expectations would be, both from their relationship and from himself. There’s rip your heart out angst in this one, but there’s also a lot of sweet and quite a bit of fun. It’s high school at its finest, and makes me want to play a game of MASH with my friends, even though I’m married with a house full of kids.

Whether you like sports or not, I think you’ll love Stealing Parker. It’s awesome, and I can’t wait to read more from Miranda Kenneally.
